In 2025 we launched our first ever project in South America, with a six-week visit to bring play and laughter to kids in Colombia.
In partnership with Save the Children, our clowns and smile specialists visited schools and communities in La Guajira, an isolated north-eastern region that borders Venezuela.
La Guajira
By UNHCR’s most recent estimate, La Guajira has become home to 148,439 people seeking refuge from instability, poverty and violence in Venezuela.
Most of these Venezuelan refugees live in informal settlements, where extreme poverty is widespread and education, other services and formal employment are lacking.
These same challenges also face large numbers of the local populace, which includes many from Colombia’s indigenous peoples.
Our work
Over the course of our six weeks in La Guajira, we made 28 school visits, put on 54 circus shows in informal settlements, and visited indigenous communities and hospitals.
In the remotest region of Colombia, there are now thousands of children with happy memories and a happy thought: that funny people travelled all the way from the other side of the world just to play games with them and make them laugh.
We plan to be back in Colombia in October 2026.
