Since 2008 we’ve been sharing smiles in rural regions of Romania, Roma communities, and schools for children with disabilities. We’ve also brought laughter and happiness to thousands of kids growing up in care and in refugee camps across Romania.
The Flying Seagull Project started in 2008, when our founder Ash Perrin (clown name: Bash) loaded up a van with circus kit and set off to Romania with a small team of fellow entertainers and performers.
On our first visit, our aim was to put smiles on the faces of kids growing up in the country’s rural regions.
Over the following years, we kept up this work. We also started new play projects in Romania, bringing laughter to children in care, people with disabilities, kids from Roma communities, and older people in care homes.
Since then, our clowns and smile specialists have continued to make happy memories for kids in Romania.
In 2026 we’ll be visiting schools and community centres in areas affected by rural poverty, residential care settings for adults with disabilities, care homes for older people, and Roma communities, as well as bringing sensory play and circus to children and adults with disabilities who are living in residential care.
For both children in the residential centre and children in the day time therapy centre the Seagulls’ workshops are a time of fun and escapism. It’s amazing to see how beautifully they react to the activities and gradually open up. Weeks and months after you are gone they keep asking about when you are coming back.
