This year we focussed all of our efforts in Romania, the majority of which in rural areas Bacau County in the North East of the country. This zone is one of the poorest in the country and in Europe. The isolated villages, harsh weather and lack of employment opportunities have seen the rise of poverty, alcoholism and the breakdown of family structure. We ran several projects across the county for which we were proud to receive an award from the County Hall and city council. They awarded us a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ for our efforts in the region.
In addition to opening and running a full time arts centre in Rachitoasa we created more than 50 events across Romania. This included shows and workshops in 4 orphanages, 3 deaf schools, 27 rural schools, 11 after school programs, 2 down syndrome centres, 6 Roma communities, 6 adult psychiatric hospitals, an HIV children’s clinic, 2 safe homes for at risk children, and a charity gala.
